International Day of Older Persons
It's International Day of Older Persons on 1st October. To mark the occasion, we'd like to share our new Get Together newsletter. It's in a handy printable format, with all our weekly, monthly and special, one-off events for October and November in one place.
Feel free to pass on the newsletter others, particularly an older person or anyone who you know who is not on email.
Invite to take part in the Autumn Intergenerational Event
The next Intergenerational event is on Sunday 5th November at the Ecology Centre, Gillespie Park (run by Bright Start and Age UK Islington). We will be bringing together the generations around the theme of 'Lost Words' in nature, inspired by the amazing book by Robert McFarlane.
We'd like to invite you to share 'A favourite moment with nature when you were a child' with the younger attendees at the event. It need only be for a couple of minutes (or more, as you'd like!) Please email us on activities@ageukislington.org.uk if you'd like to part.

Revive a previous ‘passion’ or your career, whatever your age or stage of life! Whether you've been feeling a bit without direction recently or are super keen to revive an interest or a career, our Staying Well event is for you. Choose from morning or afternoon sessions with lunch!
Discover free courses, activities, volunteering opportunities and even ways to make money out of an interest or hobby. The afternoon session is geared to hearing about training and employment support options.

This month will be a special edition of Let’s Talk Greener Life promoting 'Black History Month' and also ‘Health and Wellbeing’. There will be talks from prominent guest speakers and information stalls with various community and NHS services providing advice. Tech Break October sessions Friday 13 & 27 October, 12-1pm (Zoom) Want to explore what your smartphone, tablet or pc can let you do? The next session is 13th October and the session will cover ‘Accessing local services online’. The following session is on 27th October and will cover ‘Google Maps: tips and new features’. Popular Monthly Get Togethers Breakfast Club & Park Theatre On Tues 31st October, there will be a special edition of the Breakfast Club. And Park Theatre will be taking place on Thursday 19th October.
Please note that there are a limited number of places for these events - clients who have not previously attended the event before will be given priority booking. Wills and Funeral Planning Workshop Tuesday 31 October 3 - 5pm North Library Manor Gardens, N7 6JX Our Future Matters Service will provide guidance about how to put a Will in place. They will also share information about funeral planning. Planning ahead can help reduce stress for family/friends at such an emotional time. Health & Wellbeing Event Friday 20 October, 1 - 5pm Brickworks Community Centre, 42 Crouch Hill, N4 4BY Take part in a fun-filled afternoon with jazz, gospel, sing-along, drum & steel pan, poetry and dancing. Highbury Roundhouse Older People's Activities 71 Ronalds Rd, London N5 1XB Highbury Roundhouse has a new older people's service for adults aged over 55, Mondays and Thursdays, from 10am - 2pm. Take part in a physical activity, such as yoga & pilates classes. A light lunch will be served from 11.45am on Mondays and Thursdays in our community cafe at a very affordable price. Walking Cricket (55yrs+) Tuesdays, starting 31 October, 10.45 - 11.45am Mary’s Community Centre, Upper Street, N1 2TX Claremont Project have teamed up with Middlesex Cricket and Mary’s Community Centre to offer a free 6-week taster-run of Walking Cricket sessions for Claremont members at Mary’s Community Centre. Recovery College Open Day Monday 2 October 10am-12pm Taking place at St Luke’s Community Centre 90 Central Street, Islington, EC1V 8AJ Find out about the Recovery College's courses and self-care tools to improve wellbeing at their upcoming Open Day.
