The Amazing World of 'Painting Appreciation'

Art groups are a great way to bring people together around a shared passion, whether this is to create art or to appreciate art. It is with the latter in mind that we set up the online ‘Painting Appreciation’ events. Although, the sessions have become a place where people occasionally do both!

A wide range of topics, artists and movements are covered and a lively chat is guaranteed - every Tuesday at 11am! People of all ages and backgrounds attend, with some regular carers attending.

'I care for my Mum and it's pure escapism for an hour or so, as I get the opportunity to concentrate on something completely different', Sue, Carer.

To see some more of the fabulous sketches (one above), hear Sue's experience and from others who attend, please click below.

A Carer’s Journey: Kim Was a Carer for Her Mum Who Had Dementia

Kim was a carer for her Mum who was diagnosed with dementia. Along with her three sisters, they looked after their Mum for four years. Each stage of their Mum’s dementia journey presented different challenges, some unforeseen. Find out how Kim found the practicalities of caring for her Mum, the dynamics of being a family carer and how this worked together with having a family of her own.

'Without a doubt, caring is one of the toughest jobs I’ve ever done, it was emotionally and physically draining, but the upside was that I had precious time with my mum at the end of her life.'

Let's Talk with guest speaker from Health Watch Islington: The Role of Healthwatch Islington & NHS Data Sharing Plans

Join us for our next Let’s Talk session. For July’s session, we will be joined by guest speaker, Emma Whitby, Health Watch Islington Chief Executive. Emma will be talking about the role of Healthwatch Islington and NHS Digital Data Sharing plans.

According to Matt Hancock, Health Secretary, on the BBC News website (22.6.21), the NHS Digital Data Sharing plans mean that ‘NHS patients in England will get greater control over their health and social care data.’ According to BBC News it means ‘people will be able to access their medical records from different parts of the NHS through various apps.' BBC News also identifies that there are critics of the scheme and 'concerns that the system has not been properly explained to patients'.
