Age UK Islington Newsletter 2022

Dear Islington Carer,

Welcome to your October Newsletter

October has World Mental Health Day on 10th of the month. For information about events and activities taking place related to "mental health and wellbeing" in Islington, we'd recommend the Islington Life website. We'd also like to share a guide from partner Mobilise "Carers' guide to making friends with our feelings" which has some useful tips.

We also like to invite you to an online training session on 13 October, developed with NHS colleagues. See below for more details!

Emotional Support for Carers - Your Mental Health Matters

Thurs 13 Oct, 10.30am-12pm via Zoom

We'd highly recommend this online training from Islington Carers Hub & C&I NHS Trust especially for carers, sharing tips and guidance for what we can do to look after our emotional health and wellbeing. It will explore how caring can make us feel, opportunities for getting a break from caring and what options there are for counselling, talking therapies and other support. It's going to be a relaxed, informal session and hope that you might be able to join us.

Cost of Living Guides Managing Energy Bills Part 1

Introducing Sarah & Emily

Employed by both C&I and Age UK Islington, Mental Health Outreach Workers, Sarah and Emily have been working with us as part of our team since January.

They work with clients to help them to untangle and tackle some of the things that are going on in their lives and also to help them access the rich variety of support that is available in the community.

If you're caring for someone with a mental health issue who is not currently getting support, you might want to find out more about the Mental Health Outreach Service in our short video (30 secs) and in this interview.

Mother to Mother Carers' Support Project

If you are a mother caring for an offspring affected by mental health problems, you might be interested in Islington Mind's Mother to Mother Carers' Support Project. The offspring can be of any age. Many of the mothers who attend care for an adult offspring.
