In July we hosted the first in a series of our Age UK Islington Staying Well events. We were joined by local services that help Islington residents keep independent at home for longer or to keep active and to get out and about.

Look out for information about the next Age UK Islington Staying Well event which we're planning for October - this is going to focus on 'Skills & Interests'. GET TOGETHERS & SUPPORT GROUPS Future Matters In-Person Events August & September N1 & N7 Islington venues Conversations planning for health emergencies or end of life with family and friends are never easy. Thinking about the future today can reduce stress and result in better outcomes - no matter what your age.
Just as everyone should have a Will, everyone should have a Lasting Powers of Attorney in place. Our Future Matters service offers free support and help to put in place LPAs, Wills, Advance Care Plans. They also have Future Matters Death Cafes, which is a forum to discuss anything about end of life.

Let's Talk Peer Event, Wed 30 August, 10.30am-1.30pm LIFT Islington, 45 White Lion Street, N1 9PW Let's Talk Peer Event provides the opportunity to talk about anything and everything that's to do with Islington - whether it's something you're having difficulties with or something you've discovered that you want to share.
This month there will be a demonstration of how you can check the benefits and grants that you might be eligible for. As part of the morning, Islington Council also want to hear your views about what's needed for the future Wellbeing service. Local History Walks & Stadium Tours with Arsenal Monday 21 August, 10am - 1pm Highbury N5 & Emirates Stadium Join Arsenal in the Community for a history walk around Highbury and a tour of Arsenal stadium. Find out about the history of the village of Highbury and its development from Roman times to the present day. The walk finishes with a tour of Emirates Stadium and a chance to see behind the scenes. Park Theatre Thursday 3 August, 2pm, matinee 3pm 13 Clifton Terrace, Finsbury Park, London N4 3JP Start with tea, coffee and a chat in a reserved area on the 2nd floor (Park Pizza) and then make your way to the performance, which starts at 3pm (there is a lift). To attend, it's 'pay-what-you-can' suggested donation of £3. Tea and coffee is £1. This month's play is 'Disruption'. Please note that there are a limited number of places for this event and we will give priority booking to those clients who have not previously attended. Breakfast Club Cafe Get Together Tuesday 29 August, 2-4pm 31 Camden Passage, London N1 8EA Join Age UK Islington and the Breakfast Club team for a chat and a cuppa on the last Tuesday of the month at the Breakfast Club, Angel. Please note that there are a limited number of places for this event and we will give priority booking to those clients who have not previously attended. Love Parks Week 23 28 July to 6 August Love Parks is a national campaign to encourage all of us to get out and discover our fantastic local parks. Islington has a great programme of free events taking place next week, from guided walks to gardening sessions. Why not join a bird watching walk at Caledonian Park or a butterfly spotting event at Duncan Terrace Gardens? Enrolment Days for Adult Community Learning Courses Wed 6, Thurs 7 or Fri 8 September, 9.30am - 4pm The Community Centre, 76 Parkhurst Road, N7 0FF Whether you need new skills to get back to work, want to brush up on your basic skills or need help to find a job, ACL have courses ready and waiting to help you. You must be 19 or over, unemployed or low-waged to be eligible for our free courses. See their Enrolment poster here and click below for their packed autumn brochure. Personal Trainer-led Fitness Classes Wednesdays 6-7pm till 30 August King Square Gardens, EC1V 7AN Nuffield Health Islington together with Islington Parks are offering free personal trainer lead fitness classes in King Square Gardens. In the event of heavy rain, the sessions may be cancelled. There is no need to book, you can just turn up. For more information you can call 0207 288 8200 or email Nuffield Health by clicking below. Men's Grub Club Fridays monthly starting 4 August, 11am - 2pm Cook for Good The Men's Grub Club is a series of monthly cooking classes for men (55yrs+) to help gain confidence in the kitchen. The 6 classes will take place from August to February (with a break in December). You'll get together with others to cook and eat a delicious meal – with enough to take some home for the next day. Orange Knots & Lavender Lines (55yrs+) Friday 1 September, 12-2pm Arc Centre, 98b St Paul Street, N1 7DF Join Cubitt Arts for a creative celebration where they will share with you how we have been experimenting with weaving warmth into our communities. Your invited to create your own fanzine, spin woven hoops and take a line for a walk. Oh and there will be CAKE! Shape Up Islington Mondays starting 18 September, 11am - 2pm The Arsenal Hub, 56 Benwell Road, N7 7BA Sign-up for a free weight loss course available from Arsenal in the Community (criteria apply). It's a series of 12 sessions with a mixture of help to change long term habits and fun & effective physical activity in a group environment. See the Shape Up webpage here.

Boxing Fitness Claremont Project, 24-27 White Lion Street, N1 9PD Champions 4 Change have a 12-week Boxing Fitness for Type 2 Diabetes/Risk of Diabetes Programme. It is designed to help and motivate adults of all ages to develop and sustain active lifestyles to combat health problems, such as heart disease, obesity and the risk of Type 2 diabetes. Greater London History Walks There's a chance to go along for the last 3 walks in the summer series of historical walks in Islington. They are 'not too long and not too fast, and there's a cup of tea or coffee included. Flash flooding: advice from Mayor of London's office As the climate changes, severe flooding is expected to happen more frequently in London. Flash floods are difficult to predict and often happen quickly with fast flowing water. They are more likely to happen during intense summer storms. London Met Police Community Consultation Mon 14 August, 5.30pm - 9pm The Lift, 45 White Lion Street, N1 9PW London Met Police consultation event is hosting a community event to discuss their New Met for London strategy. Guests are asked to arrive for 5.30pm for a 6pm start. They are really keen to hear your views and ensure that this strategy serves you and the communities in Islington. Refreshments will be provided during the event.
