Dear Islington Resident,

NEWS & SPECIAL EVENTS

Cost of Living support and upcoming Open Day

Cost of Living Day, Andover Community Centre, Thursday 8 Dec, 1-4pm

Following the success of the first Cost of Living event that was held a couple of weeks ago at Caxton House, there are another two Cost of Living events planned - one at Andover Community Centre next Thursday and a further event on 25 January that will be taking place at Mildmay Community Centre.

Many local residents shared how helpful it was to have advice and information services all in one room so they could find out what support is available. No need to book!  See the poster here.

Help with energy bills & cost of living payments: Find out about support that you might be eligible for, for your energy bills and household costs on the government website 'Help for Households' including discounts and offers from supermarkets and other businesses.

Warm Community Spaces Many Islington households will struggle with their energy bills this winter and may be unable to keep their heating on as much as they usually would at this time of the year. To help, the council and local community partners are offering spaces at community venues where people can drop-in, maybe enjoy some company and a hot drink. See the Islington Council website to find a venue near you.

Social Broadband & Phone Tarrifs On benefits? You may be due cheap, long-term 'social tariffs' for broadband and phone contracts. Further details are available on the Money Saving Expert website.

Details of all the above are also included on the Age UK Islington Cost of Living page on our website - click the link below.

Helping Client Andrew with Mobility & Housing issues

When Andrew who is in his late 70s, was discharged from hospital, it was discovered that the tiny flat where he had been living in for years had become unsafe for him due to mobility issues. He was also very isolated and he had essentially become a prisoner in his own home. Find out how one of Age UK Islington's Navigators, Constance, was able to help Andrew and read tips and guidance about applying for sheltered housing and financial support to help with care.
