Nine years ago when Rhoda moved to London, she had limited connections in the area. At the time, Rhoda was quite sick and housebound. Following newsletters that she received from Age UK Islington, she decided to reach out to receive some support.

GET TOGETHERS & SUPPORT GROUPS Let's Talk Peer Event, Wed 19 July, 10.30am-1.30pm LIFT Islington, 45 White Lion Street, N1 9PW Let's Talk Peer Event provides the opportunity to talk about anything and everything that's to do with Islington - whether it's something you're having difficulties with or something you've discovered that you want to share. This month, there will be a talk about Windrush and the funds that are available to apply to. You can also hear about benefits and benefit checks and as usual there will be one to one advice surgery from 1 - 1.30pm. Local History Walks & Stadium Tours with Arsenal Monday 24 July, 10am - 1pm Highbury N5 & Emirates Stadium Join Arsenal in the Community for a history walk around Highbury and a tour of Arsenal stadium. Find out about the history of the village of Highbury and its development from Roman times to the present day. The walk finishes with a tour of Emirates Stadium and a chance to see behind the scenes. First Aid Workshop Thursday 27 July, 10.30am - 12noon North Library, Manor Gardens, London N7 6JX Want to learn essential, life-saving first aid skills to help in an emergency? If so, this interactive workshop, run by the British Red Cross, will build your confidence to help someone in a first aid emergency, using everyday objects around you. Park Theatre Thursday 13 July, 2pm, matinee 3.15pm 13 Clifton Terrace, Finsbury Park, London N4 3JP Start with tea, coffee and a chat in a reserved area on the 2nd floor (Park Pizza) and then make your way to the performance, which starts at 3.15pm (there is a lift). To attend, it's 'pay-what-you-can' suggested donation of £3. Tea and coffee is £1. This month's play is 'Bones'. Please note that there are a limited number of places for this event and we will give priority booking to those clients who have not previously attended. Breakfast Club Cafe Get Together Tuesday 25 July, 2-4pm 31 Camden Passage, London N1 8EA Join Age UK Islington and the Breakfast Club team for a chat and a cuppa on the last Tuesday of the month at the Breakfast Club, Angel. Please note that there are a limited number of places for this event and we will give priority booking to those clients who have not previously attended. Cally Festival Sunday 2 July, 12-6pm Join a party like no other and sample the best the Cally has to offer. Pulling together with the whole community around Caledonian Road and Islington, the festival celebrates our local culture and community for a day of live music, story telling, workshops, food and creativity.

Find Age UK Islington's stall on Freeling Street and take part in our Wellbeing Quiz for a chance to win an Alexa Echo Dot or items of Arsenal kit in our prize draw. 'We are Islington Festival’ Saturday 8 July, 12pm – 6pm Islington Green, Upper Street, N1 8DU Celebrating the diverse Islington community! Come and enjoy: live music and performances, street food, acting and movement workshop, creative art activities and local business market. Celebrate Islington - Community Festival Wednesday 12 July, 6-9pm Islington Assembly Hall, Upper Street, N1 2UD Fantastic event to celebrate Islington's amazing people and rich diversity: featuring performances and delicious free food: finger buffet with vegetarian and meat options. Free drinks (no alcohol). Free tickets on a first come first served basis. My Way Day Friday 14 July, 10am-3pm Arsenal Stadium, Woolwich Rooms, N7 7AJ After a successful event in 2022, My Way Day is back for its second year. From music sessions to information on getting paid employment, the day will showcase the wide range of activities, opportunities and support that is available to Islington residents with a learning disability and/or autism. LIFT Opportunities Fair Wed 19 July, 6.30-8.30pm Northeastern University, London, E1W 1LP This event is your chance to explore a variety of opportunities and connect with professionals in your field of interest. From networking opportunities to career advice, the event includes jobs, apprenticeships, internships, training programmes. Summer Intergenerational Event Saturday 22 July, 10.30am-1pm Islington Ecology Centre, 191 Drayton Park, N5 1PH Come and meet new people, join the sing-along, listen to music, make nature craft activities, enjoy nature guided short walks. There will be pond dipping and a nature talk. Plus, free refreshments and drinks! Community Lunches - Volunteers Needed St Luke's Community Centre, EC1V 8AJ One Saturday a month, St Luke's recruits volunteers to work with their community chef to make lunch for 50-60 members of their community. Want to get involved? Help with food preparation and cooking from 10am-12pm. Adults and families with children aged 8+ are very welcome to come and help. Islington History & Park Walks Mary Tyler runs weekly walks for ages 60+ around Islington for Healthy Generations, exploring history, green spaces and having a general natter! This year's Alcohol Awareness Week takes place from 3-9 July 2023. Check how healthy your drinking is with this quick quiz from Alcohol for Change. Watch out for TV licence scams TV Licence scams are again on the rise, with Action Fraud warning people about emails that lead to dodgy websites asking for your details. Which? reports that Action Fraud has received over 3,400 reports about TV Licence scams in the past two weeks.
