Introducing Sarah & Emily

 

Employed by both C&I and Age UK Islington, Mental Health Outreach Workers, Sarah and Emily have been working with us as part of our team since January. They work with clients to help them to untangle and tackle some of the things that are going on in their lives and also to help them access the rich variety of support that is available in the community.

Find out about upcoming events on 7th October ("Surviving Winter" St Luke's Community Centre), 17th October ("Digital Workshop – Energy Saving Tips & Advice") and 26th October ("Lunch & Learn: Cost of Living & Wellbeing" Islington Town Hall).


We'd also like to share the last part of our "Cost of Living: Managing your Energy Bills" guide. Don't forget that our Let's Talk Peer Event provides information about financial support that is available, every month. Hosted by Shamin, in October's Let's Talk session, there will be a Cost-of-Living Crisis talk by Islington Council Income Maximisation Team (IMAX). Ruby Pearce, Islington Council Commissioning Manager will also be joining us to find out what your needs, wants and wishes are when it comes to Home Care.

 

 

Silver Sunday: Lunch & Concert Wed 12 Oct, 12noon

Elizabeth House, 2 Hurlock Street, London, N5 1ED

 

Linking with the national day Silver Sunday, we are delighted to be joining up with Elizabeth House Community Centre to host a concert to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth. It will be a fun, varied musical performance from Connaught Opera following a light lunch. Despite it being for Silver Sunday, the event is on a Wednesday! Kew Gardens Trip Monday 17th October

 

Enjoy and admire Kew Gardens with the rich colours of autumn in this free visit organised by Age UK Islington. There is no better place in London to see the changing of the seasons than at the botanical gardens at Kew! The trip is being led by Age UK Islington volunteers. We’ll meet at Kew Gardens’ main entrance at 11.30am. Wear comfortable shoes and bring walking aids if needed.

 

 

Regular Get Togethers: Park Theatre & Breakfast Club

 

 

Click the links to book for this month's Park Theatre pay-what-you-can matinee.  Taking place on Thurs 6 Oct, start with tea, coffee and a chat at 2pm and then make your way to the performance at 3.15pm - this month's play is 'SUS'. The Breakfast Club Cafe Get Together will be taking place on Tues 25 Oct, 2-4pm.  Early booking is always recommended for these events!

Get more out of your smartphone, tablet or pc

Tech Break Fridays fortnightly, 12 - 1pm & other sessions

 

Tech Break can help you to get to know more about what your smartphone, tablet or computer can do! Every fortnight, we'll be focusing on a specific topic, in response to the most common questions we receive from clients. The sessions take place on Zoom. This month we'll be looking at messaging apps e.g. Whatsapp and in another session, social media. 


Healthwatch Islington also have regular digital sessions and there are details of some really great free support that is being offered by Three mobile phone stores from 2nd October.  Click here for further details of October's Digital Support sessions.

 

NETWORK EVENTS & PROJECTS

 

Brickworks Community Centre, Crouch Hill, N4

Tranquil Health & Wellbeing Event, Sat 15 October, 12 - 4pm

Sunday Sing-along, Sun 2 Oct, 10am

 

We'd like to let you know about two events coming up at Brickworks Community Centre. You might like to try out their Health & Wellbeing Cultural Afternoon. The October session is taking place on Sat 15 October, 12 - 4pm. Click here for more information and to book. There will be a steel band, zumba, poetry, socca music and dancing!


Linking to Silver Sunday, there will be a Sunday Sing-along on Sunday 2 October, 10am. Songs will range from 80’s pop to Rat Pack Jazz, to movie themes and show tunes. Find Out What's On in Your Local Parks

 

It's the perfect season to spend time in Islington Parks.  Take a walk with someone you know, or find out what's going on in your local park.  There's regular planned walks, volunteering, gardening and creative activities that are organised by Islington Parks team and community organisations.  Don't forget the Health & Wellbeing Walk (no need to book) which takes place on the first Friday of every month from the Ecology Centre in Gillespie Park at 10am.

 

 

Black History Month

 

There's a whole month of events planned by Islington Council and community partners, to celebrate Black History Month.  The launch is coming up this Saturday 1 October, at Caxton House 1.30 - 4.30pm.  For more details see the Islington Life website.
