Dear Islington Carer,

We'd like to share some latest information & advice and details of activities and events that might be of interest to you. There's loads coming up in May! There's also details of what we have planned for Carers Week 5-11 June, hot off the press!

The life-changing power of poetry

Lia shares her thoughts about the benefits of writing poetry as part of our everyday lives and the role it can play in keeping positive mental health. To help with a difficult period in her own life she decided to write a poem every week for a year! Hear about Lia's inspiring story 'Mother of Stories', and her upcoming Poetry Workshop on Tuesday 16 May.

Cost of Living: are you paying too much for a mobile phone?

Research carried out by VirginO2 has identified that too many people are paying too much for their mobile phone contracts, at the end of their contract period that they are tied into. This is an issue that is particularly affecting over 65s. Find out more here together with some latest information about prepayment meters.

Dementia Action Week takes place in May

Dementia Action Week encourages people who are concerned that they or someone they know may be experiencing dementia symptoms to seek further help. We can share details of activities that are being organised by Age UK Islington, Islington Carers Hub and other local partners for people living with dementia and their carers in May, together with information about support services on our Dementia Action Week webpage.

Chat to the Future Matters team over a freshly brewed coffee!

Our Future Matters team is going to be at Islington Green on the Thursday of #Dying Matters Week on Thursday 11 May, 10.30am - 2.30pm. They will be on hand to make you your favourite brew at our trusty coffee trike! The team is expert about anything related to end of life planning, e.g. lasting powers of attorney, putting in place a will. Come along to simply say 'hi' or come with your questions!  Find out more including who else is planning to pop by!
