Do you know someone who looks after a friend, partner or relative? Our Islington Carers Hub service is running a week of free, fun events – including a dance class, cooking session and group walk – as part of Carers Week (5–11 June). Designed for unpaid carers to take some time out, try something new and meet other carers in Islington.

OUR GET TOGETHERS & SUPPORT GROUPS Let's Talk Peer Event, Wed 21 June, 10.30am-1.30pm LIFT Islington, 45 White Lion Street, N1 9PW or Zoom Let's Talk Peer Event provides the opportunity to talk about anything and everything that's to do with Islington - whether it's something you're having difficulties with or something you've discovered that you want to share. This month, we'll have talks about Grants & Financial support and the accessibility of community services and facilities in Islington for those with disabilities and the elderly. As usual, we will be providing one to one advice surgery at the LIFT between 1pm-1.30pm. Self-Advocacy Workshop Thursday 15 June, 2-5pm Islington North Library, Manor Gardens, N7 6JX Being able to speak up for yourself (self-advocacy) and ask for the things that are important to us personally can make such a difference to our lives! This workshop will provide an introduction to self-advocacy and identify barriers that can stand in the way of speaking up for what you want. It's particularly useful if you are facing issues dealing with organisations. Local History Walk & Arsenal Stadium Tour Monday 19 June, 10am-1pm Highbury & Emirates Stadium Age UK Islington is teaming up with Arsenal in the Community to bring you another of their very popular history walks combined with a stadium tour. The walk will give an insight into a history of the 'village' of Highbury and its development from Roman times to the present day. The walk finishes with a tour of Emirates Stadium and a chance to see behind the scenes. Park Theatre Thursday 1 June, 2pm, matinee 3pm 13 Clifton Terrace, Finsbury Park, London N4 3JP Start with tea, coffee and a chat in a reserved area on the 2nd floor (Park Pizza) and then make your way to the performance, which starts at 3pm (there is a lift). To attend, it's 'pay-what-you-can' suggested donation of £3. Tea and coffee is £1. This month's play is 'The Shape of Things'. Have your Say on the Future of the Sobell Leisure Centre In August 2022, a flood destroyed the ground floor of the Sobell Leisure Centre, including the trampoline park, soft play, ice rink, squash courts, and sports hall, which have all been written off.
The council is looking to reimagine the facilities on offer so that the Sobell Leisure Centre appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds. A public consultation on exciting plans to modernise the centre is now live – have your say! Laamiga's Discover-Me Project Monday 12 June 6.30-8.30pm (online) Join monthly online webinars starting on 12 June 6.30-8.30pm, with storytelling, communication and creativity skills for women from minority ethnic, refugee, & migrant backgrounds aged over 18 in Camden, Islington and neighbouring boroughs.

Young Women's Personal Development Group Mondays 29 May – 3 July 5pm (Zoom) This group run by the Maya Centre was planned and developed with young women and will be facilitated by coach Hellen Millar Maya Centre’s Volunteer Leader, Samira Sharif. Discussions and activities will cover: confidence building, setting and maintaining goals, creating healthy habits and routines practising compassion towards themselves. The groups aim to help young women navigate adulthood, by prioritising self-care and creating a positive environment for themselves. Although the sessions started on 29 May, it's still possible to start next Monday. NHS funded Expert Patient Programme The NHS Whittington Health Expert Patient Programme is running a number of courses in June that can help with the self-management of health conditions. There are general courses, covering all health conditions and those focused specifically on Diabetes, Sickle Cell, Long Covid. Run by people with lived experience and health professionals, online and in person. Click the button below for the latest dates and courses. Elfrida Society Sports Sessions Islington Tennis Centre / Caxton House The Elfrida Society is running a series of sports sessions this summer. The Access to Health Project at the Elfrida Society works to improve the health of adults with learning difficulties. See flyers with further details for their fitness, tennis and cricket sessions. St Luke's Summer Festival - Free Family Day St Luke's Community Centre, EC1V 8AJ Get ready for a bumper party at St Luke's Community Hub for all the local community on Saturday 24th June, 1-4pm. There's something for everyone, with a DJ, party games, gardening and art & craft workshops! Around five million people in total will be eligible for a spring covid jab, including over 75s, those with a weakened immune system and older adult care home residents. The spring booster will be available till 30 June.
